“I’m Still Fine” – Modern Day Psalms

Music has played a huge part of my life and it is something I value as an essential part of my own flourishing. I’ve played piano since I was 6 years old and even played concert piano for a few years. I love all kinds of different genres, but tend to rely on a few favorites when I’m feeling especially stressed or conflicted.

I’ve recently discovered a new band – the Red Clay. Strays ……I am obsessed! Many of their songs feel like modern-day Psalms, especially within my focus areas of resilience, burnout, and moral injury. They also eloquently (much better than I can) express some of my own internal struggles. This song is especially meaningful to me and I’m listening to it on repeat.

Esther 4:14 has been a guiding force in my life and is my one and only tattoo “For such a time as this”. I often struggle with the assignments God has given me “God I’m afraid you picked the wrong one”…….yet, I know “I’m stronger in the long run” – that’s resilience, right?!

They also give a nod to “rocking the boat”, which is a common theme in all of my work! (Moral Courage) I’m sharing in the hopes that it speaks to others seeking meaning/purpose and hope in the midst of our current struggles.

If you see Brandon Coleman or any of the other band members, tell them this nurse leader, scientist, and educator is grateful for their music and reminder that “God’s not given me up”!
