Pedagogy of Kindness vs Toxic Rigor

I’ve been reading a lot about “Toxic Rigor” a relatively new term, but not a new phenomenon, especially in nursing education. Sadly, it is more widespread than you imagine and not limited to the disabled, frequently represented as a general mistrust of students with policing behaviors through rigid rules and overwhelming expectations – often having nothing to do with the learning outcomes (example: intense focus on APA or plagiarism detection). I was thrilled to find this article about the Pedagogy of Kindness, which eloquently describes my own perspectives. For myself, I choose to believe students and believe IN my students.
